Diggin' w/ Daferwa

We are back with another Digging edition! This time it was only right asking Daniel Fernando Wahl aka Daferwa who has been actively contributing to Cologne's nightlife and beyond, to tell us a little bit about his current heavy rotations. For over 10 years Daferwa has been playing and networking in the global music scene and founded his own nights as well. The resident DJ and freelancing author for WDR COSMO fka WDR Funkhaus Europa (Germanys N°1 public radio station for Global Pop Music) wrote programs and conducted in-depth interviews with names like Emicida, Criolo, Seu Jorge, Sergio Mendez, Marcelo D2, Karol Conka, Mexican Institute of Sound, just to mention a few. With no doubt he got a great variety of sounds in his crates. So, let's have a listen of his 5 picks.

Zairah – Guaya

Approximately one year ago I discovered the Party-Rap Queen Zairah from Los Angeles. Her voices, lingo and flow hit me right away. Lately she teamed up with producer King Doudou from Lyon to release hard hitting Perreo like „Cavernicola“ and „Guaya“.Last week she released a new track produced by DJ Dus from Corpus Cristi who's has been holding up the Cumbia Bass Flag for a while. It's so good to see the Global Bass OG's linking with such talented new voices, especially empowering female voices.

Muzi - I Know It

Muzi is a South African producer, singer and DJ who draw my attention in 2016. His music is an awesome blend of global dance music inspired my legends as Fely Kuti, Daft Punk or Kid Kudi, and contemporary South African Electronic Music in between Hip Hop, Kwaito House and melodic Electronica. His voices is an important instrument in his music that gives his productions a universal uniqueness. I can totally recommend to listen back to his LP Afrovision and check if you feel this great artist. By the way, his new track 'I Know It' is a collab with no one else than the great Sango.

Moonshine feat. Nino Augustine & Uproot Andy – La Montamos

We can't talk about Global Bass without talking about Uproot Andy, the New York based Canadian producer. I premiered Uproot Andy in Germany with my Mash It Up! Crew in 2010, flew him in and out from New York, and introduce him to WDR Cosmo. Andy has been collaborating with the Moonshine Collective and on their latest Moonshine Collective Compilation he cooked a new banger called „La Montamos“ with Panamanian singer Nino Augustine from Atlanta: Melodic built up, tight basslines and a lot of Caribbean flavors.

DJ Plead – Relentless Trills EP

Kicks, Percussions and oriental melodic hooks. That's what come to my mind when I think of the DJ Plead EP Relentless Trills, recorded in Sidney during the first lockdown. I love each of the 5 Tracks, they create a special ambient vibe and could be the soundtrack of desert race video-game. Favorite moment is where the oriental feel is carried by old school digital dancehall riddims.

Mak 10 & Scratchclart – Smoke Signal

Two UK legends combining fluttering woodwind arpeggios and percussive elements like no others. Scratcha DVA aka Scratchclart has been dropping a lot of cool dancefloor bangers, but I feel Smoke Signal on top of the game. A mix of UK Funky, Gqom and Bashment. Uff!
